Dr. Roula Tsokalidou is an Associate Professor of sociolinguistics and the teaching of language in the School of Early Childhood Education at the Faculty of Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). During 2001-2006 she was a lecturer at the Department of Primary School Education at the University of Thessaly, while during 1996-2001 she was research associate at the Centre for the Greek Language.  She also taught at Monash University of Australia, where she completed her PhD in Linguistics in 1994. Her research interests focus mainly in the study of language contact in education and in issues of multiculturalism and bilingualism in the family and at school, and her publications lie in bilingualism, code-switching, gender and educational practices for a culturally sensitive education. She has participated in numerous conferences and cooperates with other researchers on international and national programmes dealing with multiculturalism in education. Since 2009 she has been founder and editor in chief of the group and periodical ‘Polydromo’ which researches and carries out activities on bilingualism and multiculturalism in education and society. She has published numerous relevant works (books and papers) in the area of sociolinguistics and language contact in education.
